Teaching

I have taught music for over 20 years to students of all ages, from 8 to 80, teaching private lessons, ensembles, clinics, music theory, and composition. For 10 years I taught at the University of Maine in Augusta, and during that time I also taught at Bowdoin and Bates Colleges. I have also taught clinics around the world, including the US, Japan, and Russia.

For the past few years I have taught at home and online, allowing both myself and my students the flexibility to schedule lessons at a time that works for both of us. I have taught online for over 15 years, and have seen how technology has enabled students to make real progress while studying remotely. Over time I've developed a method of teaching that combines the advances technology while avoiding the difficulties that student and teachers often face. To learn more, watch the short video below.

Also on this page you can find courses and transcriptions I've created on the website Soundslice, which is a wonderful learning tool. I have also uploaded some of the materials I often use when teaching. Finally, I have a list of materials and like I've found especially useful, enlightening, or just cool.

So I hope you find some of this useful, and I hope that you reach out to me if you'd care to take lessons. Take care and happy bass-ing!
